Blackpool Tower
Yesterday Mark and I went to visit Blackpool Tower. Mark had never been. It’s only a 45 minute drive to Blackpool at this time of year and there’s no problem parking at all. Although it’s freezing cold it’s a pretty good time of year to visit in many ways.
Unfortunately it was seriously windy so the actual Tower itself was closed. We still paid the £12 each to get in though because I thought it would be fun to go to the Tower Circus. It was the end of the Christmas season so the show was a cross between a circus and a panto - The Adventures of Sinbad.
It was surprisingly packed considering it was a Sunday in January. There was a really good atmosphere and I couldn’t resist treating myself to some candyfloss - I haven’t had candyfloss in years. The first part of the show was very panto based, but then they moved on to a big old circus extravaganza. There were tumblers and acrobats and men balancing 20 foot high poles on their heads with women doing handstands on top. It was quite spectacular. After the interval we came back to find the circus ring filled with water and a boat before a grand finale where they persuaded everyone they really wanted to do YMCA.
After the show we visited the Aquarium and marvelled at the huge tropical fish and giant fruit eating relatives of the piranah. Then we went on the worst and most inaccurate fairground ride detailing the evolution of life on earth ever devised. I’d missed that attraction when I last visited because the queue had been too long. It’s so bad it’s hilarious or just plain embarrassing depending on your point of view. Finally we went up to the spectacularly ornate ballroom. It really makes you wish you could dance even though it has an eerie quality because it’s such a large space for so few people.
We rounded off a very pleasant day with a tray of really good chips and curry sauce scoffed in the car to warm us up from the biting cold. Mark wants to go back so he can go up the Tower and stand on the big glass plate in the floor looking down nearly 400 feet. Sounds good to me.

Hi Jenny
I assume you mean Scarborough in Yorkshire rather than the one in the Caribbean? I’m not sure there are any dedicated websites to help you organise daytrips to Scarborough but you could try:
Yorkshire Tourist Board: http://www.yorkshire.com/cps/rde/xchg/ytb/
Visit Yorkshire: http://www.visityorkshire.co.uk/
Probably easiest just to phone Scarborough Tourist Info office - you can ge their contact details at: http://www.scarborough.gov.uk/Default.aspx?page=7134
Hope this helps.
